Inhalt
This module is designed for students interested in learning how methods from the field of medical informatics can facilitate clinical research, i.e., the study of health and illness in people, often involving trials or tests to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and side effects of medical interventions. As such, it covers informatics methods, solutions, and architectures designed to support clinical research processes. Emphasis is given to data-centric challenges, encompassing the collection, management, and exchange of healthcare and research data for scientific purposes. In addition to providing an overview of the application domain (e.g., areas of clinical research, types of relevant information systems), it specifically focuses on innovative techniques for integrating health data (e.g., ontologies, communication, and integration methods), health data privacy (e.g., consent management, pseudonymization, anonymization) and strategies for sharing data across institutions (e.g., network topologies, federation models). Alongside the lectures, students will be tasked with practically implementing foundational methods used in the field.
